Chasing Liberty
here's the deal people. all i ask is for someone to finish my movie quotes with resounding pep, appreciate the endless joy a cupcake can bring, listen to everything from neil sedaka to rogue wave, and love - and i mean LOVE - lord of the rings almost as much as i do.

just watched a screening of #ExtremelyLoudAndIncrediblyClose. 2 words: THOMAS HORN. #rememberthename
unfortunately, the movie didn’t live up to the book in many ways. but, thomas horn’s portrayal of the main character (oskar schell) is INCREDIBLE - pun intended. it’s absolutely amazing to watch thomas in the film because it’s exactly what i pictured oskar to be like. i cannot believe it’s thomas’ FIRST TIME ACTING. seriously, he is one to watch out for. i’ve seen lots of films this year and if he’s not nominated for something, there is no sense in the film industry.
i hope people don’t just watch the film, i hope they read the book. the book is now on my top favorites list and i guarantee it will be dissected in high school english classes of the future. truly, it’s masterfully written.
the movie is not as masterful because of the grotesque manipulation of the novel’s plot to match the dramatic demands of hollywood. but, i appreciate its few nods to the artistry the original book embodied. the sound and cinematography are worth mention, but otherwise, it definitely is not winning in my book for adaptive screenplay. sorry.
anyways, more thoughts to come. i’m sure it will be nominated so i’ll end up talking about it more fully come academy award time! for now, watch the film (and bring a box of tissues) then go straight to purchasing the book (if that’s what it takes to get America reading again…)
